3 Teams That Should Trade for Leonard Fournette Immediately After Jags Didn’t Pick up His Option

By not picking up Leonard Fournette’s fifth-year option, the Jacksonville Jaguars are essentially signaling that they’re open for business. Fournette’s option would have cost the Jags $8.5 million, and Jacksonville isn’t crazy to not want to pay any running back — let alone one with Fournette’s injury concerns — that much money.

While only having one year left on his contract could deter some trade partners, it makes the LSU product marginally cheaper. In the right offense, Fournette could contribute to a potential playoff team.

3. San Francisco 49ers

Yes, the emergence of Raheem Mostert and trade for Kyle Juszczyk might suggest that the 49ers are content with the running-back-by-committee approach, but why be complacent? Pair Jimmy Garoppolo with a bowling ball of a running back who can take even more time off the clock, and Kyle Shanahan’s offensive creativity will be endless. The 49ers already possess an elite defense. Adding Fournette would only allow San Francisco to win in even more ways, which has to be an attractive thought.

2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

With Tom Brady under center, the Bucs lack a legitimate running back outside of Ronald Jones and 2020 draftee Ke’Shawn Vaughn. Fournette would almost instantly vault to the front of the pack, and give Brady the bruiser he’s been lacking since his days in New England with Legarrette Blount.

1. Buffalo Bills

Sure, the Bills selected Zack Moss in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft to pair with Devin Singletary, but why settle there? Even one year of Leonard Fournette would help Josh Allen immensely, providing the Bills with one of the best running back trios in the game as they seek to dethrone the New England Patriots as AFC East champs.
