Let’s hope Dennis Dodd is a cat person, because there are going to be some very angry Bulldogs out there. In a recent appearance on CBS Sports HQ, he said that Florida is a better football team than Georgia heading as things stand right now heading into the 2020 season.
“Florida is a better team right now” ? @dennisdoddcbs explains why Georgia may not win the SEC East this year

Georgia may be the SEC East champions three years running, but Dodd isn’t wrong. Georgia is no longer the same team that took only one regular season loss and brought home a Sugar Bowl win against a strong Baylor squad. Losing quarterback Jake Fromm and running back D’Andre Swift will do that.
Fromm’s declaration for the NFL draft left the Bulldogs scrambling. They’ve brought in a transfer quarterback from Wake Forest, Jamie Newman, which puts the team in a high risk, high reward scenario. Newman looks like a solid choice on paper, but introducing him to a brand new team and system in a program that is much higher profile that Wake Forest’s will pose a real challenge for Georgia this season.

Even without the relative instability at Georgia, the Gators would have been a force to reckon with. The team’s returning starting quarterback, Kyle Trask, had 25 passing touchdowns and four rushing touchdowns in just 11 games last season, and he threw for 2,941 yards. As Dodd mentions, they have strong returners on defense and at running back and tight end, plus a stacked recruiting class.
Georgia has had a terrific run the last several years, but Florida has a proven QB and the Bulldogs simply have one too many question marks at the moment. This might finally be Florida’s chance to take control of the SEC, as much as that will drive UGA fans up a wall.
